On January 10, 2017, U.S. Department of State will host a workshop on overview of the newly signed Implementing Arrangement (IA) between the U.S. Government and European Commission. This workshop provides valuable insight into how the new IA will facilitate the participation of U.S. organizations in Horizon 2020 projects.
On October 17, 2016, the U.S. Ambassador to the European Union, Anthony Gardner, and the European Commissioner for Research and Innovation, Carlos Moedas, signed an Implementing Arrangement between the Government of the United States of America and the European Commission to enhance transatlantic cooperation on science, technology, and innovation. Previous to the Implementing Arrangement, any researcher that joined a Horizon 2020 research project was required to sign the Horizon 2020 grant agreement regardless of whether or not the researcher received any funds from the European Commission. The new Implementing Arrangement allows for U.S. researchers with their own sources of funding to join a Horizon 2020 research project WITHOUT having to sign the Horizon 2020 grant agreement. This approach has the potential to create new transatlantic research partnership opportunities, supported by the EU’s signature Horizon 2020 research funding program and
U.S. federal, state, private, and foundation funds.
This workshop is hosted in partnership with AAAS (American Association for the Advancement of Science), the American Friends of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, and NCURA (National Council of University Research Administrators).
